Copy Wii Games: An In-Depth Instruction Guide

Last night, when I was reading my email through my iPhone app (when I was on the can if you must know), I had 13 different emails from readers of my website wanting to know exactly what the process of copying Wii games entails. So, as a result, I spent the rest of the night putting together this guide. Enjoy!

In the early days of the Wii, it was already possible to play copied games. However, this involved installing a device known as a mod chip. Mod chips are alright – they do the job – but they involve voiding your Wii warranty. And who wants that?

Nowadays, there is a more sensible choice. Some enterprising programmer developed a software application which will basically remove the security off of Nintendo wii games so you don’t have to mod your own Wii at all in order to play the duplicated video games.

Ok, I’m rambling. Here are the instructions, peeps:

Step Numero Uno:

Get a hold of the application, and save the executable file on your computer’s desktop. The exact same file is fine on either a Mac or pc. I believe they are actively developing a package for Linux.

Step Numero Dos:

Set up the program. Find the file on the desktop. Double click on it. Click next each time that it asks you. You will know that you’re done when you are getting a screen informing you the set up is finished.

Step Numero Tres:

Select the Wii video game that you want to copy. Load it in to the optical drive (the CD or DVD burner) on your computer or Macintosh.

STEP 4

Now, run the game copy software that you just installed.

Five:

This step is where the main difference comes in versus trying to copy games with ordinary CD burning software like Windows Media Player or Roxio. You need to “rip” the game disc. Select the selection in the game copy software to extract, and then decide where you want to store the file. I suggest only using the desktop again. Next hit “Start”.

Step Numero Seis:

At this point, the copy should be complete. You should have a file ending in .ISO in the location that you specified in the previous step. If not, go back to Step 2 and repeat everything to this point. Retrieve the Wii disc from your CD drive. Run out to the store and buy a blank CD. I’ll wait. Are you back? Good. Now insert the blank disc into your CD or DVD drive. Back in the game copy app, select write mode. Tell it to write the .ISO file that you made in step 5. Start it back up.

Step Numero Siete:

Now, chill out for a few. The burn will take about 10 minutes. The game copier will play some corny music when the burn is complete. If your speakers are turned up loud, it will scare you. Just a warning. Anyway, when it’s done, remove the disc from the drive and put it into your Wii. If everything went correctly, it should play at this point!

And now all of your games will be safe because you’re going to rinse and repeat until you’ve burned your entire collection, right?
