Copy Wii Games With Game Copy Software

I had the strangest thing happen to me today. I was walking down the street, minding my own business, when all of a sudden someone recognized me from one of my Youtube videos! The young chap came up to me and started asking why I hadn’t put together a concrete guide on how to copy Wii games. I didn’t have an answer for him. So, for him and for you, I’ve done just that today.

Now, in years past, you needed to put in a mod chip in order to enjoy ripped games. We had written about mod chips in the past, in this post. In essence, a mod chip is actually a special type of computer chip that you have to install inside of your Wii console. This involves cracking open your own Nintendo wii, which in turn voids the warranty.

In 2009, however, a different fix was released. Someone in the hacking community who lived in Eastern Europe invented a program that you could install on your computer which would allow you to make copies of Wii games with no encryption – i.e. that you could play on any unmodded Wii.

Here are the instructions to make a copy:

Step 1:

Download the application, and save the executable file on your computer’s desktop. The exact same file will work on either a Pc or mac. I think that they’re actively setting up a program for Linux.

STEP 2

The program will, initially, be in a .Zip file. Use your favorite Zip utility like WinZip or 7Zip to extract it. Once you’ve extracted the root .exe, simply double click it to start the installation. Accept all of the defaults, and reboot once you’re finished.

Step 3:

Select the Wii video game you want to copy. Insert it in the optical drive (the CD or DVD burner) on your pc or Macintosh.

Step 4:

You should have a link to the game copy app within your Start/Programs menu. Find it and click on it now to launch it.

STEP 5

The next step is to get into “ripping” the game. This is fairly similar to ripping a music CD – we just have to use a special tool to do it in order to get past the game’s encryption. In the game copy app, select the “read” mode from the appropriate drop down menu. It will then ask you which disc drive to copy from, as well as where to write the file to. Pick your drive that the disc is in, and then tell it to store the file on your desktop. Now sit back and have a Coke or something, since the rip will take about 10 minutes of your time.

Step 6:

Alright, in case you made it this far, Now i’m presuming that the copy finished correctly. If not, start over from Step Two. At this point, remove the game disc out of your optical drive, and insert a blank CD or even DVD in it. Any kind of CD or DVD that’s suitable for your own drive is fine. Within the applications menu, select “write” mode. Then browse to the file that it copied to your desktop. Click “Start”.

Step 7:

When it finishes, this application will play some fun music to show you it’s done, and will state that it’s completed. Great! Now you simply just remove the game, write a label on it with a sharpie pen, and you’re all set! Don’t forget to place your master copy of your game in a safe location, and also to be sure to play using the copied game!

Have fun!
