A number of readers have asked for more detailed information on how to duplicate Wii video games, and so I have written them up today so that you can enjoy!
When I first got into this game, learning through trial and error how to hack Wii consoles, the only way to play copied games was to install a mod chip into your console. I was actually an employee of the first startup that mass marketed mod chips. What is a mod chip, you ask? In essence, it’s a special chip that you solder onto the motherboard of your Wii. To do so, you have to open up your Wii and get into it’s guts, which by nature voids the warranty.
Today, however, I won’t have anything to do with Mod chips. This is because there is a much better way to play copied games now that doesn’t void your warranty. It involves using software to strip the encryption off of a game so that it can be played by any standard Wii.
So, before I ramble anymore, here is the guide:
STEP 1
Obviously, you’re going to need to purchase the software that will allow you to do what I talked about above. Simply Google the phrase “copy Wii games” and you should find what you’re looking for. It costs less than the price of a single Wii game at retail. Once you’ve purchased it, download the file, and run it when your PC prompts you.
Second Step:
Install the program. Get the file on the desktop. Double click it. Click next each time that it asks you. You’ll be aware that you’re finished when you are getting a screen letting you know that the set up is finished.
Step Three:
Make the tough decision on which game in your collection to copy first. It’s completely up to you and has no bearing on the rest of this process. Load the game disc into your PC’s DVD burner drive.
STEP 4
Now, it’s time to launch the app that you just paid for and downloaded. There should be a shortcut on the desktop if you took all of the defaults in the installation. Double click it now.
Step Five:
If we were copying a simple music disc, there would no encryption or strange file formats to deal with and, if we had two CD or DVD burners, we could simply copy from one drive to another. With a game disc, though, you don’t have a choice and you MUST rip the disc to your hard drive. Choose the option in the drop down menu within the game copy program for this, and tell it to store the file on your desktop. Hit “Start”.
Step Six:
Now, the game rip should have finished. It may take up to 15 minutes depending upon the speed of your PC/Mac and your CD/DVD drive. Be patient. When it’s finished, it’ll play some crazy music. Remove the game disc from your PC’s drive. Insert a blank CD or DVD into the drive. Within the game copier app, find the drop down menu in the top nav menu again. This time, select “write” or “burn” (depending on what version you have). Pick the .ISO file that you just ripped and tell it to burn that. Click “Go”.
STEP 7
Once again, the previous step can take up to 10 or 15 minutes to finish. You’ll know when it’s done because, once again, it’ll play some music and pop up a “finished” screen. That’s it! Just remove the copied disc, and get your game on!
And now you can backup all of your games. It’s a really simple process once you’ve done it a few times. Enjoy!
