2010 saw a number of new video games hit the market, some good and some really not. Every year though a couple of games are released that every console owner should play, and these five Playstation 3 titles are some of 2010′s best.
God of War 3 is the third part of the story of Kratos and his battle with the Greek Gods. The first two were originally released on the Playstation 2 and were two of the biggest hits ever on that console. This third version takes the game to an entirely new level. It is beautifully animated and rendered, and is full of incredible action, mind-boggling puzzles and a gripping story. For those that have not played the original two, they have been re-released and enhanced for the PS3 and are available in one pack.
Heavy Rain, unique in many ways, is an interactive movie of sorts, from the makers who made the equally unique Fahrenheit for the Playstation 2. The story comes first in this mystery adventure game, which revolves around a serial killer known as the Origami Killer. It is strictly for adults only, and is often quite disturbing, but if you want to experience something different, this game steps into territories not normally visited by video games.
After the success of Modern Warfare 2, it comes as no surprise that the new Call of Duty game, Black Ops, has broken records everywhere. Set during the Cold War, this first-person-shooter is one of the best of its genre with smooth mechanics and really good graphics. Its multi-player options have made it stand out above the rest, and the online community playing this game is gigantic.
Rockstar, the creators of the GTA video games, have a hit almost every year, but their open-world western adventure, Red Dead Redemption, may just be their best. They have managed to recapture the old West brilliantly, and you will find yourself fully immersed in the story of John Marston.
Like with the GTA games, there are missions and side-quests everywhere, including poker, hunting and horse-wrangling, to name but a few. They have also released some excellent extra content to download.
Finally for sports lovers, not many video games have been better than FIFA 11, the latest in EA’s soccer series. Each version of this game continues to improve and while a few years ago, there were other titles that could compete with it for the title of best soccer game, it now rules the roost by far. You can play against the computer, or with friends, to your heart’s content, but here again it is the online features that make it stand out. You can now play with up to 10 other friends, no matter where they are in the world, in online battles, leagues and competitions. This year they have introduced the ability to play as the goalkeeper, adding an entirely new dimension to the game.
