How to Backup Wii Games: A Step-By-Step Intro

Lately on the blog, I haven’t been able to spit without hitting a comment from someone asking for a step-by-step guide on how to backup Wii games. So, I complied! Here you go:

In prior years, (like the former half of the past decade), you had to void your warranty in order to play games that you had copied for your Wii. This was because the Wii wouldn’t play copied games without a mod chip. What the heck is a mod chip, you ask? A mod chip is a special device that you buy from Japan that you have to install on the interior of your Wii console. And in order to install it, you had to open your Wii and break the seal- which of necessity involves voiding the warranty.

These days, there is a better option. Some enterprising coder made a piece of software that will essentially remove the security off of Wii games so that you do not have to mod your own Nintendo wii whatsoever to be able to enjoy the copied games.

I don’t want this intro to ramble on any longer than necessary, so here is what you came for:

1:

Download the package from the distributor. Save it to an appropriate location on your computer. Click on it twice in rapid succession to start the install process.

Two:

Set up the application. Find the file on your desktop. Double click on it. Hit next every time that it asks you. You’ll be aware that you’re finished when you get a screen letting you know that the set up is complete.

3:

Choose the Wii video game that you want to copy. Load it in the optical drive (the CD or even DVD burner) on your pc or Macintosh.

Four:

Launch the game copy program which you installed. (Just double click on the icon within the desktop)

STEP 5

Now, there is a big difference in the rest of the process in comparison to copying a music disc. You can’t just copy from one disc to another, even if you have more than one CD burner. You need to “rip” the disc so as to extract the encryption. In the game copying program, select the option from the drop down for “extraction”. Select “extract to desktop”. Hit “Go”.

STEP 6

Now, you’re going to write the file that was just extracted to a blank CD or DVD. Eject the game disc from your burner, and load up a blank one. In Game Copy Wizard (the software that you’ve been using) pick the option for writing. Select the ISO file that was extracted and tell it to start.

STEP 7

Once it completes, the app may play some amusing music to show you it’s completed, and will state that it’s done. Excellent! Congratulations , you simply just remove the game, jot down a label on it with a sharpie pen, and you’re all set! Remember to put your master copy of your game in a safe place, and to be sure to play with your copied game!

Which means that you now needn’t be a computer hardware hacker or even void your warranty in order to back up games as is your legal right. Simply just follow these directions, and you’ll be set!
