I have always said that dance games go particularly well on the Wii Platform. I loved Just dance and Wii Zumba Fitness, but…Michael Jackson and the Wii are even more perfect! In fact, at the risk of getting groaned at, they fit like a sequined glove and of course you get (a very cheap looking) one with the game!
Yes, it’s a bit of fun and so is the disclaimer to not wear the glove while playing. I assume it’s fun anyway as the glove doesn’t fit me (not even close), but I suppose your remote could slip out of your hand more easily with a glove on so maybe it’s legit?
What about the game itself. The King of Pop in gameland and it really does fit so perfectly well! I don’t think anyone would argue that MJ was one of the music industry’s most innovative artists of all time. His music but also his amazing dance routines were totally new and different at the time. And both work so very well on the Wii platform. It’s almost unerring, it’s a marriage made in heaven, it really is! I think one of the major acid tests for any game is how easy is for you to actually get involved and playing at a reasonable level. With Wii Michael Jackson The Experience you will be dancing and singing along with MJ himself very quickly and I like that.
Unfortunately (although understandably) Michael himself is not in the game. However the makers have been very sensitive to Michael’s legacy and Wii Michael Jackson The Experience is very true to his spirit which just pours out from every track.
Another plus for the makers is the quality of dancer they have used…outstanding. The moves are well put together and exciting and really capture the essence of what Michael was all about.
The dancer’s faces are washed out in the game and whilst I’d like to see some definition after a while you don’t notice as you get whipped along and immersed in the dancing and singing of the game. Suddenly you are up there on stage alongside Michael himself. UBI Soft have done a fantastic job with true to MJ costumes (most actually worn by MJ) and make up as well as an unerring attention to detail.
This game really does provide a stunning Michael Jackson Experience and even casual fans will love this game.
The entire experience is so absolutely, essentially Michael Jackson, from his amazing songs to his epic videos, everything is completely right and I am sure Michael himself would have approved – big time! I don’t think there are many other artists (alive or dead) who have enough true quality material to bring offer a game of such quality This really brings together a unique mix of music and dance that is very distinct, and very definitely MJ. In fact it requires a heady mix such as this to allow a game like this to be made. I guess that’s the very reason there is nothing else like this in the game market. To produce a quality dance and music game requires something unique and few artists offer anything that comes close.
It’s certainly true that Michael’s dance moves have now become permanently ingrained in our culture, you the see them everywhere nowadays. On talent shows to club dance floors across the globe. Spins, moonwalks (a word invented on the back of the now iconic dance move I believe) and many other MJ moves are now seen and enjoyed by millions of people young and slightly older. I have no doubt that Wii Michael Jackson The Experience will add to MJ’s influence and fan base, particularly amongst young gamers.
Of course, playing a game of this nature also gives you a real workout as well, so you can get fitter as you have fun. I always find having fun helps take the pain of exercise away! All the moves are planned out well, easy to understand and learn, so it doesn’t take long to get into the game and to be playing effectively. Again, I like games that you can get into quickly. MJ The Experience on Wii will have you dancing around singing along very quickly indeed!
Boogie on the Sunshine!
Another great feature of the design is that four people can play with a basic Wii Remote. The images are presented down the left hand side of the screen which allows easy cuing of moves. You get points for correct moves and the totals are easy to see and follow.
The nearer you are to making the correct move the more points you will get, although you will get points for simply dancing (again I like that). You get extra points for accuracy as well. When a song finishes all your points are changed into stars and as you get more stars new levels are opened up to you. There are three dance tutors I think I recognized Travis Payne but not the others.
You can dance as one of the troupe or as Michael himself. I like the fact this offers more variation to the game.
Overall, Wii Michael Jackson the Experience is an oustanding game that truly captures the essence of what Michael Jackson was all about. If you love his music and his dance routines, you will absolutely love this game. But even if you’re not a MJ fan, this game is still amazing fun.
It’s fun, emotional, exciting and wonderfully exhausting all at the same time. MJ was about to tour when he was sadly taken from us, to complete these routines he must have retained his fitness as some are hard work…I just find it so sad that we never got to see his last shows! Perhaps in some small way Wii Michael Jackson The Experience can make up for that loss?
