The Nintendo 3DS console, with a cost of approximately $300.00, will be released in the United Sates in early March after a late February release in Japan.
The new console will have 2 significant features. First it will not require the use of special glasses to view in 3D. This is a huge tech advance. Second it will be backwards compatible meaning it will be fully usable with Nintendo DS and DSi series software.
The 3DS Consoles upper 3d screen is 3.53 inch screen with a resolution of 800×240 pixels. The lower screen is smaller at 3.02 inches with a resolution of 320×240 pixels and is a touch screen display for more interactivity. It will also have LAN and WIFI capabilites and run at 2.4GHz.
The unit will support IEEE 802.11 with enhanced security (WPA/WPA2). Embedded microphone and B,A,X,Y buttons are included as well. A new slide pad will also be included with a 3D slider to control 3D visual depth. The console weighs 8.1 oz, is 5.3 in wide, 2.9 in deep, and 0.83 in thick when closed.
Its backward compatibility feature enables it to view, read, and play the old formats and standards of the former Nintendo DSi gaming console. It will also have high definition detailed graphics that will be incorporated with new games created specifically for the new 3DS console.
The Nintendo 3DS console also can view high definition 3D films and movies. Its 3D cameras can take and view pictures, however they can only be viewed by the 3DS and not any other device.
