The Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard – A Brief Review

As indicated by the name on the packaging, the Rii is a mini keyboard. Naturally, I’m talking about the size in comparison to a regular computer keyboard – and it’s much smaller. Measuring a mere 5.9×2.3×0.5 inches, the Rii is a dwarf compared with the average 18in x 2in x 8in – and it’s very lightweight at 3.2 oz.. It’s lightweight and really small, which makes it ideal for individuals on the move because it’s so easy to carry with you. As it’s so compact in size, this mini keyboard fits nicely between your hands for a comfortable typing experience.

The Rii is fantastic for using with your laptop or desktop PC, as well as your PS3 or any other gaming system that supports this keyboard. Wires are redundant with the Rii’s wireless capability, provided by a Bluetooth USB receiver, so you can quickly connect to other wireless electronic units. It boasts of a full QWERTY keyboard and it also sports a touchpad, which is like those on laptops. There are also 26 LED lights built into the Rii for when the immediate lighting is dark. The power supply consists of two rechargeable lithium ion batteries, which come with the Rii.

As far as reviews go, there are a lot on Amazon, mostly with 4 or 5 stars. But possibly this device’s first appearances are misleading, because there are also a number of ratings falling between 1 and 3 stars. A maximum range of 30 ft for working moderately well with his Ubuntu system was mentioned by one reviewer. Nevertheless, thirty feet is quite adequate. A delightful feature for an individual who has a multimedia application is that provison is made for control of a playlist and volume also. The Rii also handily comes with other buttons, which although not frequently used, are good to have when you do need them.

No device is perfect, and so there are some drawbacks that have to be mentioned. The touchpad runs rather well; still, it can be a bit of a pain as it isn’t always precise, unlike most typical laptop touchpads. One other annoyance – which can be circumvented by using the mouse buttons for left and right alternatively – is that the touchpad is a bit insensitive to taps. It also bears noting that the keys are directly underneath each other, and not 50% offset as we are used to with the bigger keyboards. It’s not a real hassle, however; you’ll get accustomed to it quite quickly.

The Rii is a terrific device for those who are searching for a small keyboard that features a touch pad. There are a few of little downsides but the good things outweigh them, especially at such a great price.
