Wii Golden Eye 007

Bond is back after being one of the first and most influential first person shooter games ever, Bond has made his way to Wii with GoldenEye 007.

I believe that the original game was the first ever “first-person shooter” released. And because of that many have tried to follow, some more successfully than others, but it has always been a favorite because of that. This is more than a re-make though. Whilst the game retains that classic “bond feel”, it really has undergone a huge revamp in terms of graphics and complexity and of course introduces new Bond Daniel Craig.

As soon as the first screen of play opens up on this game memories of the original on Nintendo 64 come flooding back, with even more surprises and guess work while still managing to retain the unique mix of action, stealth and world-beating design that only agent 007 can bring.

I believe I am right in saying that the original game was the first to offer the four-player split-screen mode of play. And of course that aspect of the game play is kept very much alive – thankfully. And indeed, it plays even better in this version. There is also an online version that, amazingly, offers an eight-player mode!

So, to the game itself. The mission is to stop the renegade 00-agent Janus, as you return to such iconic Bond scenes as Arkhangelsk, Monte Carlo and St. Petersburg.

I think the old Nintendo 64 game was some way ahead of its time. I do like the way this new version pays tribute to that old game. I was trying to explain the importance of that game to my nephew and whilst he didn’t really understand it wasn’t long before he knew he was playing a tier one first-person shooter. He loved the layers of complexity coupled with the great action.

This is without doubt the best ever Bond game. In my opinion the best first-person shooter and made all the better by the host of new and exciting features.

Thunderball is the new enhanced and upgraded single-player mode. With new, complex yet subtle storylines and massive upgrade on the graphics.

The new four-player mode is splitscreen as before but with plenty of enhancements. Add this to all of the best weapons and levels and classic Bond baddies like Jaws and Odd Job and you have a brilliant gaming experience.

Wii Golden Eye 007 is a superb and slick first person shooter game. A classic with plenty of unique surprises along the way and that great mix of action and sleuth that is so quintessentially James Bond. If you are a Bond fan you’ll love this game, equally if first-person shooters is your thing, then this is something different, either way you’ll want to get this amazing game.
